EWMGA BOARD MEETING
JULY
13, 2010
The Eagle Watch Men’s Golf Association (EWMGA) Board meeting
was started at 6:00 pm in the Eagle Watch Hearth
restaurant. All Board members were present at this
meeting. Guests attending were Scott Szymoniak; Rick
Sandle; and Phil Suiter of the Canongate/Eagle Watch staff.
Erik Rosengren presented the Treasurer’s Report indicating a
current bank balance of $3,383.52 with no debts pending
payment at this time. This balance was later adjusted
during the meeting by $20 to $3,403.52 with a new membership
sign-up.
Erik also reported that there are 99 current 2010 EWMGA
members.
Gary Janos confirmed the re-opening of the Thursday Night
League this week and encouraged all attendees to spread
the word regarding this event.
Gary then led the discussion regarding the Welcome Back
EWMGA-sponsored tournament to be held on August 21st
as an 8:00 am shotgun event. Tournament Chairman is
Mark Dickson with Bob Smith and Sergio Silva assisting.
Gary distributed the tournament flyer for review. This
poster will be posted, along with a sign-up sheet and will
also be emailed to all EWMGA members. Discussion covered
food and beverage arrangements and the tournament format.
The tournament registration fee will be $40 and all players
must be EWMGA members. It was decided that Eagle Watch Golf
members could still join the EWMGA at a reduced $20 fee
covering the rest of 2010 activities.
The Steak n’ Cigar outing remains scheduled for
September 2nd (Thursday night) at 6:00 pm
with Gary as Tournament Chairman and Sergio and Frank Peters
assisting.
The Big Kahuna tournament remains scheduled for
September 19th (Sunday) as an 8:00 am shotgun
event. Tournament Chairman will be Gary with Dave Scott
assisting.
Discussion continued regarding the EWMGA-Sponsored
Member/Guest tournament scheduled for October 2nd
and 3rd (Saturday and Sunday). Gary will be
the Tournament Chairman with Jim Gould and Erik assisting.
It was decided that the format would be team match play
divided by flights. Initial sign-ups will be limited to the
first 40 team entrants with a waiting list, if necessary,
that could grow the event to a maximum of 45 teams. The
registration fee is still planned to be $300 per team,
subject to a further budget review, with significant
additional contributions to be made from the EWMGA. Mark
Dickson and Mike Smithson will serve as the Handicap
Committee for this tournament.
Phil Suiter announced that the club-sponsored
Member/Member tournament scheduled for October 16th
and 17th as been re-scheduled for October 23rd
and 24th. The EWMGA has agreed to conduct
the Calcutta event for this tournament which Bob Smith
leading with assistance from other Board members. We will
ask Tony Jones to serve as the auctioneer for this event.
Scott Szymoniak then reported on the golf course conditions
confirming that the current plans are to re-open all greens
on July 31st. He covered the continued sod
replacement work on tee boxes, fairways and collars around
the greens. The renovation of the driving range continues
with pathways, new mats, and new grass on hitting
locations. The cart path replacement work on the front nine
is still scheduled to begin approximately July 23rd
and will take about four to six weeks to complete. The
second nine cart path replacement is still scheduled for
next year. Delivery of the new golf carts is still in
negotiation with the manufacturer but hoped to be resolved
quickly. The new GPS units are available in Florida for
installation in the new carts upon delivery. Activities
regarding areas such as the conditions of ponds; the removal
of geese; size and availability of work crews; etc were also
discussed.
No new business was presented for discussion and the meeting
was adjourned at 7:00 pm. The next scheduled Board meeting
will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday (August 10th).
