EWMGA BOARD MEETING

FEBRUARY 8, 2011

The Eagle Watch Men’s Golf Association (EWMGA) Board meeting was started at 6:05 pm in the Eagle Watch Hearth restaurant.  All Board members were present except Mark Dickson and Larry Terry.  Andy Cartwright and Rick Sandle of the Canongate/Eagle Watch staff were also in attendance.

Andy provided an update of current and planned golf course conditions and plans.  This included the back nine cart path renovation status; the temporary closure of the chipping and practice putting greens; and on-going concerns with the cart GPS units.  Andy also agreed to investigate and respond to a number of other concerns and suggestions from the Board members.  The Board took this time to also compliment Rick and his staff on their food and beverage support.  It was agreed that planning for another BBQ event, similar to last year, will be discussed during the March Board meeting.

Erik Rosengren presented the Treasurer’s Report indicating a current bank balance of $1,312.86 with no debts outstanding.  He also reported that we will be receiving an additional $645.00 based on billing of EWMGA dues through their club accounts.

Erik then reported that there are currently 64 EWMGA 2011 members.

Discussion continued covering 2011 EWMGA tournament activities and plans as follows:

Bloody Mary & Groundhog Day Open:  This event was held on February 5th with 45 participants.  Favorable comments on both the format and food/beverage have been received.  The co-chairmen (Jim Gould, Erik Rosengren and Bob Smith) were complimented by the Board.

4-Man Combined Dogfight:  This tournament is scheduled for February 26th with Al Whitten, Bruce Worthington, Larry Terry and Sergio Silva serving as co-chairmen.  The announcement poster and sign-up sheets were reviewed and are to be immediately posted.  Tournament format and food/beverage arrangements were also discussed and agreed-upon.

Shamrock Shuffle:  This tournament is currently scheduled for March 20th but may be rescheduled due to discussions held regarding possible changes to the Cream of the Crop tournament.  Jim Gould, David Scott and Al Whitten are the co-chairmen for the Shamrock Shuffle.  The preliminary poster and sign-up sheet were reviewed.

Cream of the Crop:  This tournament is currently scheduled for April 16th and 17th with Gary Janos, Bob Smith and Erik Rosengren serving as co-chairmen.  A conflict with another outside golfing event has been recognized which could cause a number of EWMGA members not to be able to participate in this event.  Discussion was held regarding the ability to reschedule our tournament for the benefit of our members.  Following extensive discussion, a motion was made, seconded and passed to have Gary Janos discuss, with the Eagle Watch golf staff, the possibility of moving the Cream of the Crop tournament to March 19th and 20th and moving the Shamrock Shuffle tournament from March 20th to a date in August.  The motion included a provision that, if this change was not possible, we would retain the current dates for both of these tournaments.  Gary is to provide a report on his discussions as soon as possible.

EWMGA Member/Guest:  This tournament is currently scheduled to be held on October 1st and 2nd.  The club has identified a conflict with these dates and requested we consider another weekend.  Following discussion, the Board agreed to reschedule this tournament to September 24th and 25th.

Thursday Night Golf League:  Discussion was held regarding the need to increase participation in this on-going event and possible means to accomplish this objective.  This included a permanent event poster, more publicity, prize incentives and possible food/beverage arrangements.  This subject will continue to be reviewed for implementation.

There was no further new business presented and the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.  The next scheduled Board meeting will be held on March 8th starting at 6:00 pm.

Respectively submitted:  David Scott - Secretary
